YOU Did it, Denver!

E-mail Print

Some important numbers from the day...

  • Minus 15 degrees
  •  100 activists present...angry, frustrated, cold, and MOTIVATED!
  •  Dozens of phone calls, airport officials, and members of management 'overseeing' our activities!
  • The value of such a tremendous turnout? PRICELESS!

You can certainly feel a huge sense of pride and accomplishment for this, the FIRST, and very public presentation of our contract negotiations issues. We FULLY expected by yesterday to have an on-time agreement with United Airlines Management... after all, wasn't that the reason that UAL agreed to early negotiations, now NINE MONTHS in the process!

The 'taking' that we experienced during the bankruptcy process is now OVER!

The 'taking back' has now begun...mark it on your calendars and in your hearts as JANUARY 7, 2010 PLUS ONE DAY! [See more photos]

AND SO IT BEGINS...

To United Airlines Management: the patience of your Flight Attendant workgroup has worn thin and we are angry, frustrated, impatient, and anxious. If you doubt our resolve, then during your next system-wide executive conference call take a count of just how many of your Flight Attendants participated around the world in this, just the FIRST, demonstration! Do you REALLY believe the numbers are going to get smaller as time goes on and frustration, anger and impatience grow? Do you REALLY think that a group of Flight Attendants willing to stand for 3 hours in SUB-ZERO temperatures is NOT serious in our determination? Maybe you should think about adding another to the ranks of MISmanagement... a Vice-President In Charge Of Determining Just How Serious We Are!

This Flight Attendant work group has sent you a message. We look forward to the Company Negotiators recognizing our resolve as well as the value of the very reasonable changes to our pay, workrules, and benefits that have been presented in our 155 page proposal right from Day One.

We Want United Airlines to Succeed! That is one message you should take from what you saw in your Flight Attendants... and we HAVE already been a part of OUR company making it through several very difficult years. YOU know that because YOU benefited from our concessions. It is NOW time for the "shared rewards" that you promised 7 years and 9 days ago.

Those of us who represent you, our members in DEN Council #09, are so very proud of you and the turn-out yesterday. The interest, enthusiasm, and energy was more than we could have hoped for... and we know that enthusiasm will grow and will carry you through the times ahead.

Thank you again. In Solidarity...

Ken Kyle - LEC President

Happy Labor Day!

Today was the day to celebrate the contributions that Labor (you/we/US) have made to this great Country. They don't name it "CEO Day", or "Management Day" ...it is called "LABOR DAY" for a reason! Do not minimize the work you do on a daily basis to put food on the table for your family, and to provide a valid service to a transportation industry which is critical to our nation. We seek only to have the ability to participate in a life-style that our work should allow for... nothing less! Remember what those have fought for who have come before us... and do not be too willing to give anything up easily or for nothing in return. To do so would be to dishonor the efforts of all who have fought to improve our work lives and quality of work life. Happy Labor Day!
